{"id":785,"date":"2020-03-29T22:43:52","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T02:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abdicate.net\/blog\/?p=785"},"modified":"2020-03-29T22:43:53","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T02:43:53","slug":"whats-in-a-word","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abdicate.net\/blog\/?p=785","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s in a word?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Mark 14:32-34 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-white-background-color\">They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, \u201cSit here while I go and pray.\u201d<strong> <\/strong>He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.<strong> <\/strong>He told them, \u201cMy soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.\u201d<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gethsemane, the garden where Jesus was betrayed has an\ninteresting meaning \u2013 oil-press. Which in Hebrew is two words, \u201cgath\u201d meaning \u201cwine-press\u201d\nand \u201cshemen\u201d meaning \u201cliquid, fat, or richness\u201d but the cool thing is that gath\ncomes from the word nagan which means to make music, strum with your fingers to\nplay a tune. In Gethsemane, Jesus\u2019 soul was crushed with the weight of what was\nto come. But because He proceeded, as the oil-press squeezes out the fluid of\nan olive, just like Jesus bled for us with the weight of our sins. So, what\ndoes this have to do with music? David prophesied, and Paul extended it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Psalms 40:3 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.<strong> <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Colossians 3:16 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.<strong> <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Peter means <em>rock<\/em>, James is actually Jacob meaning to <em>circumvent<\/em>, and John means <em>favored by God.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 10 Commandments, written on stone and the handwriting\nagainst us is replaced with God\u2019s favor! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Amazing how names of\nplaces have such profound meaning!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mark 14:32-34 They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, \u201cSit here while I go and pray.\u201d He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.
