Well sin, in which we're all born into, requires a
payment - the price is death. Since we all sin and are therefore sinners, we
all must die for sin. The problem is because we're sinners; the payment of
death isn't enough to save us. We're left with a balance due, as it were, even
if we die. God's justice demands a pure payment for sin - we're all tainted
goods, so our payment isn't enough. God's love saw the terrible situation we're
in and therefore sent His Son Jesus Christ to live like us and then to die for
us as a pure payment. In other words, though Jesus never sinned, and therefore
didn't deserve to die, died for us, paying our debt for sin to the Father.
Look at it like this. We’re all in jail, on death row for our crimes. Jesus
tells the guard that He’ll die for the person on death row. The guard says ok
and Jesus dies for you. The news reaches you that Jesus died for you. All you
have to do to get out of jail is to believe the messenger and leave. As you leave
the jail cell, Jesus wispers in your heart saying that you can now truely live free
and abundantly if you follow Him. If you don’t leave death row, you’ll stay there
and die just as if Jesus had done nothing for you.
See? That’s just what Jesus did. He came and lived life like we do, worked like
we do, but when the time was right He was crucified on a cross and died. The
payment of sin was paid, but on the third day, He rose from the dead to deliver
the payment for sin to the Father.
So what do you have to do to be free? Simply ask Jesus to forgive you for your
sins and ask Him into your heart. The Bible says it best in Romans 10:9, “That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Saved from
what? Saved from death, not physical death, but spiritual death in hell. See
our prison cell isn’t a 6' x 6' room but sin is our prison. Most people don’t
even know they’re in prison let alone on death row. Romans 6:23 “For the wages
of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our
Lord.”
Now that you know the truth and that you can be free, what are you going to do
with it? If you accept God’s gift remember that you are no longer your own,
Jesus bought you by His death. That means you have to turn from your sins,
reject them. The Bible calls it repentance. Remember that while on death row
you cannot do anything to get you out. Good behavior won’t set you free. Even
repentance can’t set you free. Once you’re out, then you can show your
repentance through good works, not before.
So talk to Jesus. He’s ready to hear you. He loves you and just wants you to
know it. The next step is yours.
Jesus
Is Lord!!
