Joshua to Saul (The Judges)
Chapter 4
Canaan 5-Year War - CY 2493
Creation Year: 2493 Western Year: 1484 BC
Joshua leads Israel to war at 81 to age 85. These are the years of
warring with the seven nations of Canaan, Acts 13:19, Joshua 14:10,
Joshua 14:15.
The land had rest...The Time of the Judges -
CY 2498
Creation Year: 2498Western Year: 1479 BC
Joshua is 85 years old, and that it's been 45 years since they went
into the land to spy it out, Joshua 14:10
And the land had rest from war, Joshua 14:15.
Judge Joshua - CY 2498
Creation Year: 2499 Western Year: 1478 BC
First year Joshua is a judge only, for the next 25 years, until his
death at 110. This is almost (talking months here) of the
50th Jubilee from Creation, Joshua 24:29. I make the
distinction because this is the end of the 1st year Joshua as a Judge
and the end of their journey to the promise land, and the warring to
make a home for themselves. Their journey was over and they had rest.
This is the start of the next clock, I Kings 6:1, CY 2498 (when the
wars ended and the land had rest) + 480 = CY 2978.
See from here to Solomon's 4th year of reign is exactly 480 years.
If you read I Kings 6:1 you'll see that it doesn't say from the Exodus
to Solomon's 4th year, it says "...after the children of
Israel were come out of the land of Egypt...". You could take it as
being from the Exodus, but when you read the chronologies of the Judges
later in this study you'll see that it was closer to 590 years, again
forcing you to choose to believe every word scripture or not.
Joshua dies - CY 2523
Creation Year: 2523Western Year: 1454 BC
25th year of Joshua as Judge. Joshua dies at 110, Judges 2:8.
Servitude: Chushanrishathaim - CY 2524
Creation Year: 2524 Western Year: 1453 BC
Servitude: Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia Until
Samson, the times of the Judges is chronologically in order, but some
do over lap, meaning having more than one judge at the same time. This
will be pointed out when we get there. Sadly, right after Joshua died,
Israel didn't remove (utterly destroy) the inhabitants and some were
found living among Israel, which lead them to going after strange gods,
and to God's judgement, Judges 2:11-12. Therefore, God sold them into
servitude. Judges chapter two is a summary of all the judges and the
evils of Israel and their cycle of destruction.
This first servitude was for eight years, Judges 3:8.
Judge Othniel- CY 2532
Creation Year: 2532 Western Year: 1445 BC

brother of Caleb. They had rest for 40 years, Judges 3:9-11.

Servitude: Medianites Continuing the cycle, Israel did evil and
God allowed them to serve other masters, Judges 6:1.
Judge Gideon - CY 2737
Creation Year: 2737 Western Year: 1240 BC
Judge Gideon, judged 40 years and had 70 sons, Judges 6:11-16,
Judges 8:30. Israel asked Gideon (Jerubbaal) to be "ruler" as king over
them, but he refused, Judges 8:22, Judges 8:28.
Judge Abimelech - CY 2777
Creation Year: 2777 Western Year: 1200 BC
Judge Abimelech: Gideon had a son to a concubine and named him
Abimelech, Judges 8:31-33. Israel went out again after other gods. Now
Gideon (Jerubbabel) had another son that his 70 sons rejected because
he was the son of a concubine, so Abimelech had them all killed, but
not until after they chose to accept him into their house. So the men
of Shechem made Abimelech king over them, Judges 8:31-33. He judged
only for three years, Judges 9:22-24.

Servitude: Philistines, Judge Eli, Samson, and
part of Samuel ... - CY 2874
Creation Year: 2874 Western Year: 1103 BC
This grouping of servitude to the Philistines, Judge Eli, Judge
Samson, and part of the Prophet Samuel is because the Lord did not give
us the time-frame in which these events occurred, Judges 13:1. Here is
another break from tradition. This is the last mention of anything
concerning judges until I Samuel. From here to David, it can get rather
muddy, but I believe that with the given evidence (Scripture), this
period matches Eli, Samson, Samuel and Saul. We've seen that judges can
over lap and the fact that all these are mentioned, as well as the lack
of time given leads to the idea that they are not connected to the
other judges, other than Eli. What is given is that the ark is 20 years
in Kirjathjearim, the age and death of Eli, the absence of the age of
Saul and Samuel, and any dates linking them to David. Furthermore, I
believe that to add Samson, Eli and the 40 years of the Philistines
into 80 years on top of 40 years for Samuel, contradicts Scripture.
This method of linking them all to the same 40 years, at this time, is
the only way all verses fit without disregard to other
scriptures.
Note: Not all of Samuel's years are in with Eli's, just most. This
entry is to show from Eli to David in summary. Eli is judge for these
next 40 years starting at age 58. Samson is deliverer during this
time-frame for 20 years - just for your information, a deliverer and a
judge are the same, I Samuel 4:12-18, I Samuel 6:1. The ark is returned
to Israel for the plagues that fell on the Philistines, I Samuel 6:14.
Because they looked into the ark, the Lord smote 50,070 men of
Bethshemesh. They called the men of Kirjathjearim where it stayed for
20 years until David called for it, I Samuel 7:1-2, I Samuel 7:15.
Samuel anoints Saul as king, I Samuel 10:24-25, then Saul is made
king, I Samuel 11:15. However, Saul didn't last long. He sins after two
years in office by not obeying the Lord and wait for Samuel to make the
burnt offering, I Samuel 13:1, I Samuel 13:13-14. Saul sinned again by
being disobedient and so the Lord repented He made Saul king. The Lord
called on Samuel to go and anoint David to be king, I Samuel 16:13-14,
I Samuel 25:1, I Samuel 31:6, II Samuel 2:4, II Samuel 2:10. All of
this took place over twenty years. Remember when Eli died because the
Philistines took the ark, returned it and then the ark was taken to
Kirjathjearim and stayed there until David's first year? All the years
of Saul was the ark forgotten, I Chronicles 13:3, I Chronicles 13:5-6,
I Samuel 7:2.
Prophet Samuel- CY 2875*
Creation Year: 2875* Western Year: 1102* BC
Samuel is recognized by the people as a prophet and he serves with
Eli, I Samuel 2:18, I Samuel 2:26. Note: this is just a mention of
activities and not intended to be attributed to this year. Scripture
only mentions this event and not the time-frame.
Ishbosheth is born to Saul - CY 2894
Creation Year: 2894 Western Year: 1083 BC
Ishbosheth is born to Saul (Deduced by the year he took office as
king of Israel), II Samuel 2:10.
David is born - CY 2904
Creation Year: 2904 Western Year: 1073 BC
David is born (Deduced by his age at becoming king of Judah.)
Eli dies, the Ark is taken... - CY 2913
Creation Year: 2913 Western Year: 1064 BC
Eli dies and the ark is taken by the Philistines, at 98 years old, I
Samuel 4:12-18.
This is the end of the judges. Total
time: 415 years from Joshua's 5th year to this year.
End of Judges - CY 2914
Creation Year: 2914 Western Year: 1063 BC
The ark is seven months in Philistines and returned to Israel and
put in Kirjathjearim for twenty years after the Lord sent them plagues
and destroyed their god, I Samuel 6:1, I Samuel 7:2.
The Ark in Kirjathjearim - CY 2915
Creation Year: 2915 Western Year: 1062 BC
Twenty years until David called for the ark from Kirjathjearim in
the first year of his reign, I Chronicles 13:5-6, I Samuel 7:2.
